MassiOpen data: the starter product list

Massi comes with a starter list of Finnish product names, so that a scanned receipt can be matched to a category from the first day. The list is made from Open Food Facts, and it is open data under the same licence.

What the list is
- About 5,700 Finnish product names, each with the key of one of Massi's subcategories: starter-products.json (a list of
[name, key]pairs, free to download). - About 6,000 product names for the non-food categories (shampoo, toothpaste, cat food, detergent and so on) from Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Products Facts, under the same ODbL: category-extra-names.json.
- The model behind the category guess (a table of letter pieces, made from the names above, hand-written words and non-food words): category-model.json. It is open data under the ODbL as well.
- It is a derivative database of Open Food Facts, and we offer it under the ODbL 1.0: you may use, share and adapt it under the same licence, also commercially.
- How it was made: from the Open Food Facts products sold in Finland that have a name and a category, we kept only the name and mapped the category tags to Massi's subcategory keys with our own rule table. No bar codes, brands, prices, stores or pictures are included. The method is published as the scripts filter-finland.mjs, build-starter-list.mjs and build-extra-names.mjs.

Additions
If Massi users choose to share what their receipts contained (see the privacy policy), product names with their categories that contain no personal data may be added to this list. They are published here under the same licence.
